What's your name? Rachel
Who is your friend? Ann
Does your friend have a blog or shop? Yes, SpiderWings @ Etsy.
Tell us a little bit about your friendship: I have known Ann for more than a decade, but I think less than two. I love her enough that she and a mild climate were enough to lure me 3,000 miles from all I had ever known. We share a love of road trips, and humor that is as silly as it is surreal and/or scatalogical. Also, mossy corners and invertebrates.
What handmade delights did you choose for Ann?
In addition to its being somewhat silly and involving sea life, I really want to make my stamp on the Musee de Koi, which is Ann's own tiny gallery. She really deserves to have a giant one in a downtown store front in a receptive city, but this one goes with her wherever she goes.
Ann loves to use the forms of nature, especially sea life, in her art. She keeps a number of antique books of nature engravings around for reference, and I think this would be a great addition to her collection.
Nobody puts together a costume quite like my BFF, and I would love to see what she could do with a mint condition piece of dark froufrou like this.
Just trust me when I say, nobody could decorate with carcasses quite like Ann. I can see her lounging on this in some black Victorian meets neon '80s getup, receiving guests with a rare vodka cocktail in one hand, and a suspicious Japanese snack in the other.
Did I mention costumes? Because costumes.
I think she might already have one of these, now that I think about it. So clearly that's a winner. (Spiders are a theme she returns to often.)
Nobody, but nobody, I know loves "Sparklemas" like Ann.
Thanks, Rachel!

She knows me well; I love it all!
And yes, while I do have a Micrathena gracilis that resembles that one a great deal, my current one is on a glow-in-the-dark resin base, destined for an assemblage, and that one... well I'd just wear that around! Or convert it into a droplet crown. My thorny crown, that would be. :)
Also, that identifier pic? Epic. <3
Ann, I was searching my Photobucket, saw the date stamp on that picture, and realized the statute of limitations had finally run out. :-)
